Little Explanation Regarding Accusations Towards Islam

In the Name of Allah,The Most Merciful and Most Compassionate

P/S : Repost =) (I wrote this last year.)

These were wrote yesterday and this morning by me, responded to a post in a group after I read a friend of my friend was having a chat with a non-Muslim who created a page, "Izlam is a mental disease". He asked the admin to remove the page and they were having a short conversation. The admin insisted from removing the page and give some examples of muslims who are being harsh by giving death treats, tower attack, jet hijacker and stuffs. He also shows some links which condemned Islam and they'll surely believe it 100% and sometimes without even checking at any other trustable sites.Just imagine, media has spreaded a lot of bad rumors about some particular Muslims or a Muslim country, and some organizations caused a great chaos and mess about Islam, how do you think non-Muslim would respond to it? They will not just blaming on that particular party, but they WILL blame on the religion, Islam. Well, that is totally unfair.

Terrorism and Invasion. These are what most non-Muslims would thought of Islam. We, the Muslims, accept a lot of accusations which are brought by the people who do not fully understand Islam or what they are talking about, or some who just read and see it on the media which are putting a lot of bad images on Islam. I'm gonna make some explanation on some of your accusations.

The Admin said:
"If Muslims aren't supposed to start an attack, why did they invade all of North Africa and push into Europe as far as Spain until they were finally stopped? Why did they go east and make war against Persia, India and Afghanistan?"
Explanation :
They went to those countries because of some reasons :

-spread Islam (it is our obligation to spread Islam to everyone)

-showing the beautiful values in Islam

-strengthen economy

-weakened the Persia and Rome empire

Yet they didn't straight away to start a war in order to approach the King to accept Islam as a religion. Rasulullah , Muhammad (pbuh) did send a letter to the Kings and told them about Islam. For your information, Muhammad (pbuh) had sent letters to King of Persia (Abrawaiz), King of Egypt (Binyamin), King of Ethiopia (King Ashama). King Ashama accept the religion of Islam and he reverted into Islam. Yet, King Abrawaiz didn't accept Islam. And Rasulullah didn't force him to do so. We are not taught to force people to embrace Islam as stated in AlBaqarah : 256 -

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong.

We don't have to force because it is clear in Islam what is right and what is wrong. Beside of their main objective of going to those countries to spread Islam, they also wanted to strengthen their economy. For respects, so that that will ease for them to influence the public about Islam. Again, this never involved blood nor war.

Non-Muslims are divided into four groups, dzimmi, muahid, musta'man and harbi.

Dzimmi : non-Musims who stay in Muslims country and paid jizya
Muahid : non-muslims who deals with Muslims not to fight each other for some period of time with agreement
Musta'man : non-muslims who ask for shelter in a muslims country
Harbi : non muslims who are against the Muslims country and attack the Muslims country
We, the muslims don't harm dzimmi, muahid and musta'man. In fact, we protect them.

  1. Prophet SAW said, narrated by al-Tabrani which means: Who hurt the dzimmi, he also hurts me, and who hurt me, he also hurt God.
  2. The Prophet said: Beware! Whosoever oppresses a Muahid (i.e. Non-Muslim living in Muslim land with agreement) or snatches (any of) his rights or causes him pain which he cannot bear, or takes anything from him without his permission, Then “I WILL FIGHT AGAINST SUCH A (MUSLIM) ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT” [Sunnan Abu Dawud, Volume No. 3, Page No. 170, Hadith No. 3052]
In another hadith the Prophet (Peace be upon him) is more explicit, he said:
If any Muslim killed a Muahid (i.e. non-Muslim living in Muslim land with agreement) then he (muslim) shall not even smell the fragrance of Paradise although the fragrance of Paradise would have been perceived from the distance of travelling for 40 years [Sahih Bukhari, Volume No. 3, Hadith # 2995]
We need to protect the dzimmi, muahid and musta'man :
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: To protect the rights (of non-Muslims) is amongst the primary duties of mine [Sunnan Baihaqi, Volume No. 8, Page No. 30]

The Prophet Muhammad even allowed the Christians to perform their worship in his mosque.

Hadith: Once a delegation of Christians comprising of 14 members came to Madina. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) made them stay in his mosque (i.e. Masjid an Nabwi) and he gave them permission to perform their worship in their own manner inside his Mosque. [Imam Ibn Sa’d in his Tabaqat al Kubra, Volume No. 1, Page No. 357]

We can see here that Muslims are not against any non-Muslims. We do respect them and their beliefs.

We are only against non-muslims who are harbi, who attacked the country, who are causing such mess.
We don't hurt non-Muslims, but only if they, the non-muslims , at the first place don't start any harm. About the attack on WTC, it is the Al-Qaeda, organisation under Osama bin Laden that caused the mess. They attack because of their own concerns, political issues and stuffs. And what's that to be related to the other muslims when we did nothing at all? Is that fair enough? Say, Bush had launched a lot of missiles attack on Baghdad and some others countries, have anyone said that Bush is a terrorist and Christian is a dangerous religion? No.
The admin brought up a hadith :
"(And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you,) Abu Al-`Aliyah said, "This was the first Ayah about fighting that was revealed in Al-Madinah. Ever since it was revealed, Allah's Messenger used to fight only those who fought him and avoid non-combatants. Later, Surat Bara'ah (chapter 9 in the Qur'an) was revealed." `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said similarly, then he said that this was later abrogated by the Ayah
The Command to fight Those Who fight Muslims and killing Them wherever They are found."
- Tafsir Ibn Kathir "

Again, Muslims will protect themselves when harms approached them and yes, they have to fight those who harms them. They can only fight against non-Muslims who are harbi.
People also keep saying that Islam is spread by the sword. It is not. Islam is not spread by the sword. IF SO, why not all of the Hindus in India embrace into Islam when Muslims had ruled their country for almost a thousand year, yet 80% of them are still Hindus? Besides, Muslims had ruled United of Arab Emirates for almost 1400 years, but still 14 thousand of Arabs are Copts (Egyptian Christian). Don't you think that if Islam is spreaded by the sword, the whole citizens of UAE should be Muslims by now?
Don't simply judge our religion like what you do right now. We,  the Muslims are living our live to seek God Blessings. All the rumors are not going to destroy our religion at all, yet, you're showing on how typical people are behaving and responding on such thing, you are blaming on the religion itself not the particular person, or party or organisation when it is them who did the wrong things. It is good that you made research and highlight the point, keep on doing that, you'll find more and more truths instead of bad things.

Surah Al-Kafirun :

 Say: O disbelievers,
I serve not what you serve,
Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve,
Nor shall I serve that which ye serve,
Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve.
For you is your religion and for me my religion

If they don't want to accept the truth, they reject the true religion, they don't want to embrace Islam, then just let them be. Let them perform what they worship and let us worship to the only God, Allah SWT.

May Allah Bless.
